Vision and mission of the project

The vision of this project is the formation of a transnational network of civil society and state actors who are creating awareness for climate adaptation, environmental protection and indigenous land use practices in Southern Africa.

This vision is supported by the three sub objectives

Civil society organizations

At least nine civil society organizations and/or state institutions from the SADC region are networking on the topics of environmental protection and/or adaptation to climate change and position themselves jointly for the implementation of regional environmental protection and the dissemination of agro-ecological cultivation principles.

Achievements:

In total, 18 civil society organizations and state actors are networking on topics of environmental protection and/or adaptation to climate change. These organizations include the 8 Transnational network members and the 10 EduLink project partners amongst others.

Small scale farmers

808 small scale farmers use agro-ecological cultivation methods and the environmental awareness of 102 trained pupils and 11 teachers in the target regions is increased through access to information and knowledge about environmental protection and climate change and is actively implemented in the schools.

Achievements:

A total of 1319 small scale farmers are trained in agroecological cultivation methods and a total of 1954 pupils and13 teachers at 9 schools have participated in trainings. In addition, four school environmental clubs have been established at schools in Namibia.

Integration of environmental education

The integration of environmental education into Mozambique's national curriculum is anchored in a national policy for environmental education in schools until 31 July 2023.

Achievements:

To this front, progress have been made were a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ASDA and the University of Pedagogy exist to anchor the integration of environmental education (EE) in National curriculum. ASDA is integrating EE through provision of internship opportunities to young graduate from the faculty of education at the University of Pedagogy. Furthermore, a weekly program for University students to participate in EE activities is under development.
